COVID-19: Pakistan reports 336 new cases, 10 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,287,161 on Monday after 336 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 476,233 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 443,310 in Punjab, 180,194 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,491 in Balochistan, 107,811 in Islamabad, 10,413 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,570 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 42,944 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 0.78%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,777 with 10 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,246,464 after another 858 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the NCOC on Monday banned all inbound travel from Category C countries amid the threat of the new COVID-19 variant Omicorn.

In a statement issued by the NCOC, the new Category C list includes Croatia, Hungary, Netherlands, Ukraine, Ireland, Slovenia, Vietnam, Poland, South Africa, Mozambique, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The statement further added that the above-mentioned countries would require an exemption certificate from the government’s exemption committee with health protocols in place.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 266.213 million and death toll tops 5,273,274.
