COVID-19: Pakistan reports 3,914 new cases, 47 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,474,075 on Thursday after 3,914 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 554,990 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 492,489 in Punjab, 206,879 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 34,957 in Balochistan, 132,400 in Islamabad, 11,018 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 41,342 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 54,638 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 7.1%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 29,648 with 47 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,359,757 after another 5,459 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for urgent investment to end the COVID-19 pandemic this year.

Addressing the virtual launch of the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator advocacy campaign for 2022 in New York, the UN chief said that the pandemic can be defeated this year but only if vaccines, tests and treatments are made available to all people.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 403,787 million and death toll tops 5,796,745.
