COAS Gen Asim Munir, UAE president discuss bilateral cooperation

Abu Dhabi (Web Desk): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir called on United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Qasr Al Shati Palace and discussed with him the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, UAE’s state news agency WAM reported on Tuesday.

"During the meeting, the two sides reviewed cooperation relations and joint work between the UAE and Pakistan in defence and military affairs, as well as ways to strengthen them to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries,"  WAM reported.

As per the news agency, President Nahyan congratulated Gen Munir on his appointment, wishing him luck in his new duties to serve his country and people.

The WAM reported that the army chief expressed his thanks and appreciation to the president for congratulating him.

The meeting was attended by UAE’s National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other core members of the UAE government.

On Monday, COAS Asim Munir met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to review bilateral relations and the ways of enhancing the ties.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Prince Salman welcomed the army chief at the winter camp in Al-Ula earlier today (Monday).

The SPA also shared pictures of the crown prince’s reception for the army chief.

The state news agency reported that the reception was also attended by Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and National Security Adviser Dr Musaed bin Muhammad al Aiban.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ameer Khurram and other officials were also present.

COAS Munir is on a week-long official visit to Saudi Arabia and UAE — the first since assuming charge as army chief— culminating on Jan 10.
