Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 260,764 on Monday after another 482 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 285,191 after 531 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.
Overall, 124,127 cases were reported in Sindh, 94,586 in Punjab, 34,755 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,921 in Balochistan, 15,281 in Islamabad, 2,371 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,150 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,112 with 15 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has said that the government's correct decisions and people's cooperation have led to largely controlling Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said the government's policies of contact tracing, smart lockdown and public awareness have contributed greatly to contain spread of the pandemic in a short period.
The minister said the government enforced 2350 lockdowns across the country, and at present there are 85 smart lockdowns in twenty districts.
He said the government is now heading toward micro smart lockdown to target only the specific places affected by the pandemic.
"At present, there are over 7,000 coronavirus cases in the country, and the government is trying to arrange home isolation for them," Asad noted.
The planning minister said majority of people followed the standard operating procedures, which yielded positive results.
"The media also ran effective public awareness campaigns to deliver the messages to people about the contagion," he added.
Asad Umar, however, warned that the pandemic is not yet over in the country, and the cases may again rise if people discontinue following the SOPs.
He urged people to strictly adhere to the precautionary measures to completely overcome the pandemic.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 20 million and death toll tops 736,000.
