COVID-19: Pakistan reports 548 new infections, 5 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 288,206 on Friday after another 556 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 300,371 after 548 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 131,404 cases were reported in Sindh, 97,533 in Punjab, 36,823 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13,282 in Balochistan, 15,832 in Islamabad, 3,131 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,366 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,370 with 5 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said a second wave of Covid-19 may be more dangerous than the first.

The minister said the government has adopted a comprehensive strategy to control the virus.

He said the number of Cov-d-19 cases have reduced but the virus has not been eliminated completely from the country.
Asad Umar urged citizens to continue to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) until a vaccine is introduced.

The minister said schools will reopen with strict precautionary measures and a final decision will be taken next week.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 28.25 million and death toll tops 909,000.
