Lahore (Staff Report/Agencies): Police have registered a case against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) vice-president Maryam Nawaz Sharif, her husband Capt (retd) Safdar and other party workers over the August 11 clash between law-enforcers and PML-N supporters outside the office of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Lahore.
A day earlier, violence erupted outside the anti-graft watchdog's office as heavy police contingents and workers of the PML-N clashed after Maryam arrived for a hearing in a case pertaining to "illegal" acquisition of land.
The PML-N leader termed the incident an act of “state-sponsored terrorism" witnessed by her personally.
“For the first time I saw stoning and NAB-gardi and tear-gas shelling but the workers remained steadfast,” she said.
The PML-N's vice president said that despite the shelling and the injuries, the workers stood by her.
Maryam said that said she received NAB’s summons day before yesterday and alleged that the anti-corruption watchdog had leaked the information to media about the notice.
She added that there is no allegation in the notice and read out the summons in front of media persons. She said the reason to call me on this vague notice was to harm me.
Maryam Nawaz said that she also received a message to go back, the NAB did not open the door, and they remained hidden.
“I stood outside the NAB door and asked them to take my reply but they did not open the NAB office door,” she added.
She said that police hurled stones on her bulletproof vehicle which damaged the windscreen. “Had it not been a bulletproof car, I would have been hit on my head.”
