Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,089,913 on Friday after 4,934 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall 407,892 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 369,358 in Punjab, 150,708 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 31,396 in Balochistan, 92,768 in Islamabad, 9,137 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 28,654 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 59,504 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 7.76%.
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 24,266 with 79 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 979,411 after another 3,937 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, a smart lockdown will be imposed in parts of Peshawar district to control the spread of the COVID-19 disease.
As per the notification issued from the office of the deputy commissioner of Peshawar, the smart lockdown would come into effect from 9pm on August 13 (today) and "shall remain in force till further orders".
The areas where smart lockdown will be imposed include Bara Gate area bound by Bara road and Al Faisal street, Charsadda Road area bound by Canal Road, Charsadda Road and Pajjagi Link Road, Mahal Terai area bound by Dalazak Road and Ring Road, Street No 1, Darmangi Garden, Warsak Road.
The notification said no entry or exit would be allowed to these localities except for people supplying essential commodities.
All types of gatherings would be strictly prohibited. All shops, apart from essential services such as pharmacies and general stores, would also remain closed.
Moreover the congregations in mosques would be limited to five people in these areas.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 206.261 million and death toll tops 4,348,336.
