COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,262 new cases, 58 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 561,625 on Saturday after 1,262 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 253,090 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 163,367 in Punjab, 69,386 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,924 in Balochistan, 42,513 in Islamabad, 4,937 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 9,408 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 12,276 with 58 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 523,700 after another 5,536 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has approved China’s CanSinoBio Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Faisal Sultan said on Friday.

CanSinoBio last week released interim efficacy results of a multi-country trial, which included Pakistan, showing 65.7% efficacy in preventing symptomatic coronavirus cases and a 90.98% success rate in stopping severe infections.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 107.423,000 million and death toll tops 2.360,000 million.
