COVID-19: Pakistan reports 231 new cases, 11 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,279,373 on Saturday after 231 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 473,081 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 441,720 in Punjab, 179,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,391 in Balochistan, 107,275 in Islamabad, 10,400 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,506 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 33,862 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 0.68%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,595 with 11 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,227,688 after another 460 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) hopes to convene a meeting in about three weeks' time on guidelines for COVID-19 antiviral pills, a foreign media outlet reported quoting an official at the agency.

Janet Diaz, the WHO's top official for clinical care responses, said that a meeting of its guidelines development group would consider the question of Covid-19 pills in a forthcoming meeting.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 253.288 million and death toll tops 5,105,739.
