COVID-19: Pakistan reports 530 new infections, 8 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 304,609 on Tuesday after another 424 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 319,848 after 530 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 140,534 cases were reported in Sindh, 100,892 in Punjab, 38,367 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,541 in Balochistan, 17,428 in Islamabad, 3,955 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 3,131 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,588 with 8 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Minister for Planning Asad Umar has emphasized the need for compliance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including use of face masks to avoid the spread of Covid-19.

Chairing a meeting of National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in Islamabad on Tuesday, Asad Umar said risk mitigation is important to check the second wave of corona in the country.

“We as a nation and all stakeholders have taken rights steps which helped us in saving lives and contain disease spread,” the minister said.

He said the people's proactive response have been the key in our success against COVID-19.

The minister said citizens had shown great maturity and responsibility to not only protect themselves, but also follow guidelines to ensure the safety of others.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 37.7 million and death toll tops 1.07 million.
