COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,465 new cases, 49 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,491,423 on Wednesday after 2,465 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 560,670 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 496,724 in Punjab, 212,078 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 35,133 Balochistan, 133,388 in Islamabad, 11,250 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 42,180 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 49,553 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 4.97 %.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 29,877 with 49 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,388,517 after another 4,700 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the NCOC) on Tuesday revised guidelines for non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) in view of improved COVID-19 infection rates and decided to ease restrictions in cities with less than 10% positivity ratio.

The NCOC, in consultation with all federating units, has devised a differentiated approach based on the following positivity criteria: cities or districts with up to 10% positivity and cities or districts with more than 10%.

Moreover, cities with a positivity rate of more than 10%, as identified by the NCOC, are Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Mardan, Karachi, Hyderabad, and Peshawar.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 416,147 million and death toll tops 5,857,636.
