Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif’s name has been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL), Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said on Monday.
Meanwhile, Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry also stated that Shehbaz Sharif’s name has been placed on ECL.
In a tweet, the minister said that the relevant record has been updated in this regard.

The Federal Cabinet had approved the inclusion of the PML-N leader’s name to the ECL through a circulation during Eid holidays after a request forwarded by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Sharing details of the decision, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed said that Shehbaz Sharif’s name was put on the as the PML-N president is currently facing a multi-billion rupee corruption reference.
“Five members of the Sharif family have already fled abroad, the minister added.”
The interior minister said that Shehbaz Sharif is the guarantor of Nawaz Sharif.
“It would be difficult to bring him back if Shehbaz is allowed to go abroad like Nawaz Sharif”, he said.
Sheikh Rashid said that the interior ministry had issued a notification after receiving approval from the cabinet, adding that Shehbaz had 15 days to file a review application with the ministry.
On May 7, the Lahore High Court (LHC) granted Shehbaz permission to travel abroad once for medical treatment.
After obtaining bail, Shehbaz was about to fly to London on May 8 when a team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at the Lahore airport stopped him from travelling on the grounds that his name had been on the list of persons barred from leaving the country.
The federal government had also announced to file a petition against the permission granted to him to leave for abroad.
On the other hand, the PML-N president has moved the LHC against government’s decision of not allowing him to go abroad.
According to party sources, Shehbaz Sharif’s counsel has filed a contempt of court petition against the federation and demanded the court to take action in this regard.
