PM Shehbaz Sharif calls on President Arif Alvi

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met President Dr Arif Alvi at the Aiwan-e-Sadr (President House). on Wednesday.

According to a press release issued by the President's Secretariat, issues related to the evolving political and economic situation in the country were discussed during the meeting.

This is the first meeting of the prime minister with the president first time after assuming the PM's office.

As per the sources, the meeting was aimed at reducing the bitterness and the political tensions that have enveloped the county after the ouster of the Imran Khan-led government through a no-confidence motion, the sources had said.

The meeting comes following the clash between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over the removal of Punjab Governor Omer Sarfaraz Cheema.

On April 19, President Dr Arif Alvi had instructed Punjab Governor Sarfaraz Cheema to continue to hold office despite a summary moved by the premier seeking his removal.

President Arif Alvi has also distanced himself from the newly elected government from the first day.

He also skipped the oath-taking ceremony of the premier citing poor health after which Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani had taken over the responsibility.

Similarly, he also distanced himself to administer oaths to federal cabinet members and again the Senate chairman administered the oath to them.
