Islamabad: (Web Desk): The federal cabinet decided not to remove Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL), Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan announced on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference addressing a press conference with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza.
Dr Frdous Ashiq Awan said that the federal cabinet rejected removal of Maryam Nawaz' name from the ECL with consensus.
"The cabinet has unanimously rejected the removal of a VIP's name from the no list," said SAPM Awan, saying that the cabinet had acted on the advice of the subcommittee.
She said that 24 cases pertaining to including and removing names of various people from ECL were presented before the cabinet.
Awan added that the cabinet approved placement of four names on ECL, removal of eight names, while decision on eight other cases was deferred. She said that there should be one and uniform law in Pakistan without any special treatment.
Maryam Nawaz had filed a petition at the Lahore High Court (LHC) for the removal of her name from the ECL.
In the petition, the PML-N leader had expressed concern for her father's health and requested the court to allow her to travel abroad so she could take care of him.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is in London where he is seeking treatment for various illnesses.
The LHC had directed the federal government to decide on Maryam Nawaz’s plea seeking the removal of her name from the ECL within seven days.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi heard the petition filed by the PML-N leader.
Adjourning the hearing of the petition till December 26, the court asked Maryam to wait for the federal government's decision on the matter.
Last month, the LHC had granted bail to Maryam Nawaz in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) case.
The PML-N leader was arrested by NAB in August and has been in custody of the accountability watchdog, which accused her of corruption and corrupt practices as defined under section 9(a) of NAO 1999 and schedule thereto and AML Act 2010.
