Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 637,042 on Wednesday after 3,301 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall 263,664 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 202,743 in Punjab, 81,204 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19,374 in Balochistan, 53,136 in Islamabad 4,975 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 11,946 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 13,965 with 30 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 586,228 after another 957 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday announced that the educational institutes located in coronavirus hotspot will remain closed till April 11.
He was briefing the media after chairing a meeting at the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) which was held to review whether educational institutions should remain closed.
Education ministers from all provinces attended the meeting, wherein the health department briefed the participants on the current situation.
On Sunday, Shafqat Mahmood had said that the third wave was serious and required careful review, adding that the health of students, teachers and staff was the "primary consideration".
Moreover, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Faisal Sultan has said several million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are in the pipeline for April.
In a tweet, the SAPM said, "Our Covid vaccine drive continues. Orders placed for purchase of Covid vaccines (Sinopharm, 1 million doses; CanSino, 60,000 doses). Arrival expected within days. Several million additional doses in pipeline for April," he said.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 123.419,000 million and death toll tops 2.719, 000 million.
