Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 279,937 on Friday after another 376 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 294,849 after 415 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.
Overall, 128,877 cases were reported in Sindh, 96,636 in Punjab, 35,923 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12,742 in Balochistan, 15,578 in Islamabad, 2,816 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,277 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,277 with 9 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) on Thursday recommended that all educational institutes across the country should be reopened gradually (i.e universities first, then colleges, then high schools and so on) and on a rotational basis.
As per the statement issued after the NCOC meeting, it has been suggested that the timings of various institutions should be reduced by suspending various activities which involve mass gatherings, including co-curricular activities.
However, Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood said that the final decision regarding the reopening of educational institutions will be taken with consensus on September 7.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 24 million and death toll tops 821,000.
