Parvez Elahi booked on terror charges for 'attacking' law enforcers during raid

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Police on Saturday registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president and former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi and others following the mid-night raid at his Lahore residence.

A first information report (FIR) was lodged today at Lahore’s Ghalib Market Police Station on the complaint of a duty officer claiming that  the raiding team was attacked with petrol bombs, stones and batons.

As per the FIR, when the police arrived at Parvez Elahi’s residence to make the arrest, his employees “locked the house from the inside, while a countless” number of people present inside threatened the raiding team, pelted them with stones, and even doused petrol on them, causing a fire to break out“.

As a result, the complainant claimed, more police contingents were summoned to control the situation and an APC van was used to gain entry into the house.

The FIR added that Elahi used the rear entrance of the house to escape as his supporters and workers “baton-charged the police party”.

Meanwhile, Parvez Elahi's son Rasikh Elahi on Saturday moved the the Lahore High Court (LHC) against the raid at his father’s house.

In his petition, Rasikh made the Punjab government, ACE and inspector general (IG) of Punjab parties, urging the court to intervene.

The development comes comes just hours after a team of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), Punjab, and the Lahore police conducted a raid to arrest the former chief minister from his Zahoor Elahi Road residence in Lahore.

TV footages showed raiding team used an armoured vehicle to break open the main gate of the PTI leader's residence.

Anti-riot personnel also baton-charged the employees of the Elahi who resisted the cops during the operation that continued for six hours.

At least 27 individuals, includieng servants working in the household of the former Punjab chief minister and PTI workers protesting at the scene were reportedly arrested by the police.

The police officials had thoroughly searched the house but were unable to find Elahi.

It was reported that Pervaiz Elahi was not present at his residence, however, his mobile’s location shows that he is present in the same neighborhood.
