COVID-19: Pakistan reports 672 new infections, 8 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 296,340 on Tuesday after another 318 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 311,516 after 672 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 136,395 cases were reported in Sindh, 99,292 in Punjab, 37,727 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,177 in Balochistan, 16,532 in Islamabad, 3,730 inGilgit-Baltistan (GB) and  2,663 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,474 with 8 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said it will provide 120 million rapid Covid-19 diagnostic tests to low and middle-income countries at a maximum price of $5.

During a press conference, the WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom said that the initiative has been planned in collaboration with several non-profit organisations.

The director-general hoped that the project will enable the expansion of testing, particularly in rural areas that do not have lab facilities or trained health workers.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 33.3 million and death toll tops one million.
