Shahid Khaqan Abbasi hasn’t resigned as PML-N vice president, says spokesperson

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has not resigned as party’s senior Vice President, his spokesperson Hafiz Usman Abbasi said.

In a statemnt, Hafiz Usman termed the rumours of the PML-N leader’s resignation as "baseless", saying that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi "is the Senior VP of the party".

"He did not quit the party in difficult times, why would he quit now?" he questioned as he reminded reporters that the former premier had fought elections in 1988 as an independent candidate and then joined the PML-N and never looked back.

The spokesperson said that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi went to jail, but never deviated from his mission.

"Nawaz Sharif chose him as PM and even in that position he said that his leader is Nawaz Sharif," Abbasi added.

Earlier, reports had surfaced in the media that Abbasi decided to step down after Maryam Nawaz was appointed as the party's chief organiser and senior vice president by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is also PML-N president.

As per the sources the former premier had reservations over the decision taken without consulting other party members.

Earlier this month, Maryam was promoted as the PML-N's senior vice-president and chief organiser.
