PM Imran terms food security biggest challenge for Pakistan

Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that food security has become a matter of national security for Pakistan.

Address to the National Kissan Convention here on Thursday, the premier said that country’s biggest challenge in the years to come will be that of food security.

“Pakistan has new challenges and the biggest challenge is food security,” PM Khan said, adding that preparation needed to be done now about how Pakistan will produce crops for its fast-increasing population in the next 5-15 years.

The premier said that it was necessary to raise awareness about food security and that Pakistan should start taking measures to tackle the problem from today.

The prime minister said that the country’s agriculture sector faced the same issue when Pakistan was created. He added that the farmers in Pakistan there were mostly small land owners and they were not helped.

He also shared the example of China, saying that it was able to bring people out of poverty in the last 35 years as it helped its farmers.
