PML-N 's Sardar Ayaz Sadiq elected NA speaker, PPP's Ghulam Mustafa Shah deputy speaker

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz' (PML-N) Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Friday took oath as Speaker National Assembly (NA) after securing 199 votes out of 291.

Outgoing Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf administered the oath to him.

The PML-N leader defeated the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate Malik Aamir Dogar who bagged 91 votes while one vote was declared invalid.

Earlier, polling for the NA Speaker slot held in the Lower House of the Parliament in Islamabad.

Outgoing Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf chaired the session.

The speaker called on the newly elected lawmakers to begin casting their votes in alphabetical order.

PML-N, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had nominated Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, SIC had nominated Malik Aamir Dogar for the slot of Speaker.

Meanwhile, PPP's Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah has been elected as the Deputy Speaker from the coalition's side by defeating SIC-PTI Junaid Akbar.
