Policeman martyred, 2 terrorists killed in attack on Mianwali patrolling post

Lahore: Punjab police foiled a terrorist attack on a patrolling post in the Kundal area of Punjab’s Mianwali district during the early hours of Sunday.

Punjab police chief Dr Usman Anwar, in a statement, said the gun battle between the law enforcers and the militants erupted after 10 to 12 terrorists attacked a police check post in the wee hours of Sunday.

At least two terrorists were killed by the firing of policeman deployed on the roof of a nearby building while one policeman was martyred in the exchange of fire.

The terrorists attacked the police check post from two sides, the IGP said adding that the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) teams also participated in the operation.

The operation against the terrorists was carried out carefully as it got dark in the hilly area, he added.

“One of the terrorists has been positively identified as Zubair Nawaz, brother of Arshad Nawaz, the Ameer of the Tehreek-Taliban Tipu Group of Lakki Marwat, with the aid of a comprehensive database and local intelligence,” the statement read.

The second terrorist, the statement highlighted, was identified as Muhammad Khan who was a “dedicated member of the group” and “proved to be more dangerous than Zubair”.

Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the provincial police force for foiling the “impure intentions” of terrorists.
