COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,220 new cases, 63 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 547,648 on Tuesday after 1,220 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 247,727 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 158,220 in Punjab, 67,419 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,830 in Balochistan, 41,493 in Islamabad, 4,909 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 9,050 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 11,746 with 63 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 502,537 after another 1,285 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Tuesday said that Covid-19 vaccination campaign will be started today in the presence of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In a tweet, the minister said that the national vaccination campaign will start in the provincial capitals from Wednesday.

Asad Umar said that in the first phase, the vaccine will be administered to fronline health workers.

On Monday, the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Pakistan from China.

A special Pakistan Air Force (PAF) plane carrying 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine landed at the Noor Khan Airbase.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 102.584,000 million and death toll tops 2.222,000 million.
