Rawalpindi (Staff Report/Agencies): Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor on Friday said that the judgment of the Supreme Court in Asia Bibi case is a legal matter and it is unfortunate that Pakistan Army is dragged into every issue.

In an interview to the state TV channel, DG ISPR said that the government is currently engaged with the protesters and we want amicable and peaceful resolution of the matter. He said, it is a legal matter and it will be better if the law is allowed to run its course on the matter.

Further, Major General Ghafoor said, “the Pakistan army is working on eliminating terrorism from the country.” He said, peace will be maintained across the country.

The DG ISPR said, we should not drift away from what Islam teaches us nor the law, adding that, "army wants the situation to be resolved in a peaceful manner."

He said, in accordance with the law and constitution, people should refrain from statements against the army.

"We are close to winning the war against terrorism and our attention should not be diverted," Major General Ghafoor added.

On October 31, the Supreme Court acquitted Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death over blasphemy allegations. Bibi was cleared of all blasphemy charges and the apex court had ordered her immediate release.

Earlier on Thursday, Qari Muhammad Salaam, the complainant in Asia Bibi case, also filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn its conviction in the blasphemy case.

In the review plea filed in the apex court's Lahore registry, the petitioners urged the court to have Asia Bibi put on the Exit Control List (ECL) and barred from leaving the country until a decision on the petition.
