COVID-19: Pakistan reports 953 new cases, 11 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,512,707 on Friday after 953 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 569,338 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 502,264 in Punjab, 216,614 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 35,361 in Balochistan, 134,519 in Islamabad, 11,543 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 43,068 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 36,678 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 2.59%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 30,248 with 11 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,451,665 after another 2,605 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, a small study of patients suffering from persistent symptoms long after a bout of COVID-19 found that nearly 60% had nerve damage possibly caused by a defective immune response, a finding that could point to new treatments, US researchers reported on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 442,424 million and death toll tops 6,002,170.
