Shehbaz Sharif takes oath as Prime Minister of Pakistan

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif took oath as 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan on Monday.

President Arif Alvi administered the oath to the newly-elected premier in a ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.

The ceremony was attended by attended by outgoing caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and his cabinet members, parliamentarians, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), services chiefs, provincial governors, chief ministers and diplomats.

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and the chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.

Other political leaders including Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, Aleem Khan, Raja Zafarul Haq, Ahsan Iqbal, and Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and senior officers also attended the ceremony.

Later, Shehbaz Sharif was presented a guard of honour as he arrived at the Prime Minister’s (PM) House soon after taking oath of his office.

The national anthem was played and a smartly turned out contingent of the three services presented him salute and the premier inspected the guard of honour.

The prime minister was later introduced to the staff of the PM House.

Shehbaz Sharif was elected as Prime Minister of Pakistan on Sunday by securing 201 votes after defeating the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council's (SIC) candidate Omer Ayub Khan who received 92 votes.
