IHC asks authorities to inform court before arresting Imaan Mazari in any case

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday directed the authorities to inform the court before arresting human rights activist and lawyer Imaan Mazari in any case.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the IHC took up Imaan’s plea seeking the details of the First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against her and protective bail. The plea was filed last week.

At the outset of the hearing, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Munawar Iqbal Dogal informed the court that he had written to the provinces seeking the details of the cases against Imaan following the previous hearing.

He added that he also as communicated the same over fax and WhatsApp.

While referring to Imaan's speech at the shtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) rally, the AAG said that the petitioner should not make such statements.

In his remarks, Justice Aurangzeb said that the court was disposing of the case.

He  directed the authorities to inform the court before arresting Imaan in any case.

Imaan and former Menber of National Assembly (MNA) Ali Wazir were arrested on August 20 for alleged sedition, two days after a PTM public meeting in Islamabad.

The next day, the ATC had granted police three-day physical remand of Mazari and Wazir.

On August 28, Imaan was granted bail in the sedition case but was re-arrested within hours by the Islamabad police in newly filed terror case. The following day, the ATC handed her over to the police on three-day physical remand in the same case.

Subsequently, on August 30, the IHC had barred the police from arresting Imaan in any case registered after August 20, when she was first arrested.

On September 2, Imaan was granted post-arrest bail in the terror case against surety bonds worth Rs10,000. She was subsequently released.

The ATC judge also issued a written order on Friday's  hearing, and directed Attorney General for Pakistan to assist the court at the next hearing.

Earlier, IHC Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb had also ordered against arresting Imaan in any other case.

In the order issued by court, it was said that according to SSP operations, three cases were  registered against Imaan in Islamabad whereas she was granted bail in two cases.

The court had barred the federal authorities including Interior Secretary, IG Islamabad and DG FIA from arresting Imaan Mazari or assisting the provinces regarding her detention in any other case.

The court further directed the parties that Iman Mazari may not move outside the limits of the federal territory.

The court had also ordered authorities to get the details about cases registered against Mazari in the provinces and inform the court by Monday (today).
