Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum to be extended as DG ISI for one year, claims senior journalist

Islamabad (Web Desk): Senior Journalist Kamran Khan on Monday claimed that the relevant military leadership has decided to extend the services of Lt. Gen. Nadeem Ahmed Anjum as Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

On his social media platform X, khan, cititing well-informed sources, confidently claimed that this decision has been taken in order to salvage Pakistan from worst economic crisis, a surge in terrorism, and to respond to very important geopolitical developments.

“These sources assert that Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum will continue to hold the position of Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for another year,” Khan added.

The senior journalist further claimed that in the Army-Civil led campaign to address critical Pakistan's economy issues, the ISI in collaboration with related civilian agencies, will play a central role in eliminating smuggling along the Iran and Afghanistan border, confronting de-dollarization of economy, facilitating speedy privatization, restructuring state-owned enterprises (SOEs), launching a campaign to minimize the culture of non-filers in the taxation system of Pakistan, and eradicating institutionalized official corruption in Sindh, known as "Systen."

Khan has also said “All key elements of military security services including ISI and MI are in forefront to facilitate tens of billions of dollars of investment under Army run SIFC in Agriculture Minerals Mining and IT sectors. Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum's term as a three-star general was set to end later this week. Lt. Gen. Nadeem, a graduate of the National Defense University (NDU), obtained his master's degree from King's College London and completed Advanced Security Studies courses at the US Department of Defense-run Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS).”

In the end of his post, Kamran Khan clarified that senior military sources, however, refused to comment and offered no formal official confirmation or denial regarding Lt Gen Nadeem's extension as DG ISI

It is pertinent to mention that if his extension is formally confirmed, Lt. Gen. Nadeem will not be the first to receive an extension as DG ISI.

Previously, Gen. Akhter Abdul Rehman Khan and Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha had also served as DG ISI for extended tenures on national security grounds.
