 Pakistan hosts World Environment Day

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan hosted World Environment Day on Saturday in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

This year's observance of day was on the theme of "ecosystem restoration" and focus on resetting our relation with nature.

The day was celebrated across the world through various events and activities, in line with latest COVID-19 regulations.

As host of World Environment Day, Pakistan highlighted environmental issues and showcase the country's own initiatives and its role in global efforts, the Radio Pakistan reported.

The main event in Pakistan was held at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad where the official activities were inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan and live-streamed across the globe through official and social portals.

Messages from world leaders, including the UN Secretary-General were broadcast during the conference.

Prominent political and governmental figures, ministers, foreign ambassadors and high ranking officials attend the event.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Imran Khan called on the world to fight back for ecosystem restoration during the next decade.

He urged the rich countries to provide funds to the developing countries like Pakistan to fight global warming and improve the ecosystem.
