Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

"Congratulations to Shehbaz Sharif on taking the oath as the prime minister of Pakistan," the Indian premier said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier, various world leaders and diplomats, including Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iran's Ebrahim Raisi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Cameron, US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome and others had also congratulated Shehbaz on assuming office as the country's chief executive.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif took oath as 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan on Monday.

President Arif Alvi administered the oath to the newly-elected premier in a ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.

Shehbaz Sharif was elected as the premier on March 3 by securing 201 votes after defeating the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council's (SIC) candidate Omer Ayub Khan who received 92 votes.

This is the second time that he has been elected to the country’s top office as earlier he was voted in as the prime minister in April 2022 by ousting PTI's Imran Khan through a vote of no-confidence in the National Assembly.
