Islamabad (Web Desk): The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace was observed on Saturday across the globe including Pakistan.
The global theme for 2024 is "Sport for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies".
The day presents an opportunity to recognize the positive role sports and physical activity play in communities across the globe.
On August 23, 2013, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted Resolution 67/296, declaring April 6 as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
“The General Assembly invites States, the United Nations system and, in particular, the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace, relevant international organizations, and international, regional and national sport organisations, civil society including, non-governmental organizations and the private sector, and all other relevant stakeholders to cooperate, observe and raise awareness of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace," the resolution read.
