COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,714 new cases, 38 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 588,728 on Saturday after 1,579 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 259,392 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 175,964 in Punjab, 73,515 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19,106 in Balochistan, 45,329 in Islamabad, 4,958 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 10,464 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 13,166 with 38 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 558,210 after another 1,441 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, despite a high-profile visit to China by a team of international experts in January, the world is no closer to knowing the origins of Covid-19, according to one of the authors of an open letter calling for a new investigation into the pandemic.

In January, a team of scientists picked by the World Health Organization (WHO) visited hospitals and research institutes in Wuhan, the central Chinese city where the coronavirus was identified, in search of clues about the origins of Covid-19.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 115.478,000 million and death toll tops 2.568,000 million.
