COVID-19: Pakistan reports 3,613 new cases, 57 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,182,918 on Monday after 3,613 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 438,327 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 403,157 in Punjab, 165,200 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 32,403 in Balochistan, 100,956 in Islamabad 10,051 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 32,824 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 57,131 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 6.32%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 26,232 with 57 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,064,319 after another 3,438 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, a report in Chinese media says that booster shot of the two-dose Sinovac's inactivated vaccine provides effective protection against the Delta variant of coronavirus.

The report says that third dose would increase the potency, scale, and duration of anamnestic responses against Covid-19.

“A full course immunisation with Sinovac's inactivated vaccines could effectively protect against severe illness caused by the Delta variant,” it added.

The report further said that the administration of a third dose can raise a "better neutralization breadth and long-lasting humoral response in warding off COVID-19".

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 221.636 million and death toll tops 4,583,330.
