Pakistan's confirmed COVID-19 cases surge to 234,509

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Tuesday rose to 234,509 after about 2691 new coronavirus cases have surfaced in the country over the last twenty-four hours.

Overall, 82,669 cases were reported in Punjab, 96,236 in Sindh, 28,236 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10,841 in Balochistan, 13,557 in Islamabad, 1,587 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 1,387 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 4,839 with 77 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours while around 134, 957 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

Nearly one-and-a-half months after imposing the lockdown across the country, the government announced to ease the lockdown in phases, however, the number of coronavirus cases has continued to soar.

Later, the government announced to impose "smart lockdowns" in Covid-19 hotspots in major cities across the country.

National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said that implementation on the smart lockdown in the country has significantly reduced the number of deaths.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 11.5 million and death toll tops 536,000.
