ECP’s central election monitoring control center fully operational: spokesperson

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Central Election Monitoring Control Center of the Election Commission in Islamabad is fully operational and is in constant contact with the Regional and District Monitoring Control Centers established across the country.

According to an ECP spokesperson, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja is himself present at the Central Monitoring Control Center and is personally monitoring the polling process which is underway peacefully.

“Complaints can be registered round the clock by calling the helpline 051-111327000,” the spokesperson said.

Polling for general elections of National Assembly and four provincial assemblies is underway and it will continue till 5:00 pm without any break.

Over 128 million registered voters will cast vote for the national and provincial assemblies.
The polling is being held for 265 seats of the National Assembly and 590 seats of provincial assemblies.

The voting is taking place on 51 seats of the Balochistan Assembly, 128 out of 130 seats of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, 296 out of 297 seats of the Punjab Assembly and 130 seats of the Sindh Assembly.

The polling will take place in 855 constituencies out of 859 however due to the death of the candidates, voting will not be held in NA 8, PP 266, PK 22 and PK 91.

A total of 5,121 candidates are in the race for the National Assembly seats. These include 4807 male, 312 female and two transgenders.

For the four provincial assemblies, 12,695 candidates are in the field including 12,123 male, 570 women and two transgenders.

As per the ECP, 90,777 polling stations have been established nationwide. Of these, 44,000 polling stations have been declared normal, 29,985 sensitive and 16,766 highly sensitive.

Punjab has the majority number of 73, 207,896 registered voters followed by Sindh with 26,994,769, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with 21,928,119, Balochistan with 5,371,947 and federal capital Islamabad 1,083,029.

Meanwhile, around 6,50,000 security personnel have been deployed across the country to maintain law and order for the smooth and fair electoral process. These include the personnel of police, civil armed forces and the armed forces, the Radio Pakistan reported.

Under a three-tiered system, the personnel of the armed forces will perform duties outside the polling stations.
