Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has decided to revisit school opening modalities on Tuesday session amid alarming surge in coronavirus cases across the country.
The NCOC meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar held Monday to discuss updates from the provinces on rising positivity and corresponding actions, vaccination progress, and national vaccine strategy.
The meeting also reviewed the rising positivity trend prevailing across the country.
The forum directed the provincial administrations to ensure strict enforcement of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) at the grassroots level to contain the disease spread.
On Monday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 592,100 after 1,579 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall, 259,855 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 177,823 in Punjab, 74,027 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19,117 in Balochistan, 45,740 in Islamabad 4,959 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 10,579 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 13,227 with 22 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 560,458 after another 1,210 virus recoveries were reported.
