UN chief calls for global action against coronavirus-fueled hate speech

Washington (Web Desk): United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for global action against the hate speech that has risen alongside the coronavirus pandemic.

“COVID-19 does not care who we are, where we live, what we believe or about any other distinction. We need every ounce of solidarity to tackle it together. Yet the pandemic continues to unleash a tsunami of hate and xenophobia, scapegoating and scare-mongering,” he said.

Listing the examples of hate speech that have surfaced during the crisis, the UN chief stressed the need to end anti-foreigner sentiments, conspiracy theories and attacks against Muslims on the pretext of Coronavirus pandemic.

The UN Secretary General called on political leaders to build maximum outreach to vulnerable people as COVID-19 does not care who we are, where we live, what we believe or about any other distinction.
