Shehbaz Sharif elected Prime Minister of Pakistan

Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Assembly (NA) on Monday elected Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and joint opposition's candidate Mian Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The newly elected premier received 174 votes against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Shah Mahmood Qureshi who during the session, along with other PTI MNAs boycotted the election for the next prime minister of Pakistan.

The move came after Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was the party's candidate for the top slot, announced that PTI lawmakers would be resigning en masse from the NA.

The session continued with MNA Ayaz Sadiq in the chair who announced voting for the election of new premier.

As per the sources, President Alvi will not administer oath to the newly elected premier as he is on a short leave.

However Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani will administer the oath to Shehbaz Sharif.

the oath-taking ceremony for the new prime minister will be held at the President House today.

President Arif Alvi will administer the oath to the newly elected premier.

It is pertinent to mention that Imran Khan became the first prime minister of Pakistan to be ousted from his office through vote of no-confidence on Saturday.

On Sunday the National Assembly passed the no-confidence resolution against Imran Khan as 174 MNAs out of 342-member house recorded their votes in favour of the no-trust motion against him.

The session was chaired by Ayaz Sadiq, a member of the panel of chairs, after speaker Asad Qasier resigned from his office.
