MQM says no talks on forming next govt, PML-N claims two parties had reached an agreement

Lahore: The PML-N and MQM-P on Sunday held a crucial meeting on Sunday as no party emerged as the clear victor in the February 8 elections.

Soon after the meeting, MQM-P Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said no talks were held on forming next government. He said a challenging scenario has emerged post-elections and all parties must play their role in steering the country out of its present circumstances.

“The stability of democracy is more important than anything else,” he maintained that no discussion has yet taken place regarding the formation of the next government.

However, a statement issued by the PML-N stated that the two parties had reached an agreement in ‘principle’ on working together towards forming the next government.

PML-N Secretary Information Marriyum Aurangzeb also claimed that MQM-P had reached a consensus on basic points for political cooperation in the best “interest of the nation and country” with the PML-N.

The PML-N delegation was led by party supremo Nawaz Sharif and comprising Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Rana Mashhood.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui led MQM-P’s delegation comprising Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, Dr Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal at the PML-N supremo’s Jati Umra residence.
