COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,270 new cases, 33 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 560,363 on Friday after 1,270 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 252,719 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 162,875 in Punjab, 69,164 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,916 in Balochistan, 42,401 in Islamabad, 4,929 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 9,359 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 12,218 with 33 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 518,164 after another 1,481 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the University of Health Sciences (UHS) is set to start the phase III trial of another Chinese COVID-19 vaccine.

UHS Vice-Chancellor Professor Javed Akram says the trial starts next week.

Earlier, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Faisal Sultan announced that China's CanSino COVID-19 vaccine is nearly 75% effective against the virus in Pakistan.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 106.991,000 million and death toll tops 2.347,000 million.
