Islamabad (Web Desk): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday clubbed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman petitions seeking to stay the ongoing cipher case trial and quashment of the First Information Report (FIR).
IHC CJ Aamir Farooq heard the petitions on behalf of Chairman PTI regarding termination of the cipher case and stopping the trial.
PTI chief's lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa in his arguments said that the matter is ongoing in the high court and the decision is reserved. There is an appeal against the decision to charge.
Sardar Latif Khosa said that we have repeatedly said that the matter should not be rushed as it is in the high court and we have a lot of concerns regarding the Official Secrets Act, what is the security risk or is the secrecy being leaked?
He further said that Bhutto Sahib had also said the same in his speech in Raja Bazar, so what happened, my client is a national hero and the world knows and believes that he is innocent and has been jailed without any crime.
The IHC CJ said that today only a miscellaneous application has been filed, if you say, I will attach it to the main case, to which Sardar Latif Khosa said that of course you should attach the cipher case to the application for expulsion, but fix the date before October 17.
Justice Amir Farooq inquired what is going to happen on that day i.e. October 17?
Khosa said that it is the date on which the trial court has decided to indict Imran in the cipher case.
CJ Farooq said he would issue an order in this regard and fix the matter before October 17.
Later, the court issued orders to merge the pleas seeking to stay the trial court proceedings in the cipher case and dismiss the case altogether.
