COVID-19: Pakistan reports 244 new cases, 6 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,289,293 on Monday after 244 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 478,017 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 443,886in Punjab, 180,696 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,532 in Balochistan, 108,128 in Islamabad, 10,426 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,608 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 39,387 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 0.61%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,836 with 6 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,251,409 after another 308 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the special drive for implementation of obligatory vaccination regime in transport sector is underway across the country on the directions of NCOC.

The campaign will continue till December 18 during which the joint monitoring teams will check all types of transport at entry and exit points, bus stands, toll plazas, interchanges, rest areas and inter-provincial boundaries on national highways and motorways.

The NCOC has directed that only vaccinated individuals or those holding medical exemption certificates will be allowed to travel.

The mobile vaccination teams will also vaccinate non-vaccinated passengers and vehicle staff on the spot.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 270.440 million and death toll tops 5,322,447.
