Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad's indictment deferred in ECP contempt case

Islamabad (Web Desk): The indictment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, along with former party leaders Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry, in the case of contempt of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) has been deferred till December 6.

A four-member bench headed by member Nisar Durrani heard the contempt Election Commission case against the PTI leaders on Monday.

All three accused including Imran Khan , Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry did not appear in the hearing today. 

PTI chief’s lawyer also did not appear assistant lawyer presented his position in the court and requested an adjournment.

Commission head Nisar Durrani inquired if he has to come? We also have to hear the constituencies. He later remarked if there are security concerns, we can notify the hearing in the jail. 

Interior Secretary stated in the court that if you want case proceedings in jail then you can notify, we allow hearing in jail, on which a member of commission inquired whether the law allows this. On which the Interior Secretary said that he will seek the opinion of the Ministry of Law in this regard.

Fawad Chaudhry's lawyer informed the court that the former federal minister is in judicial custody.

Member Sindh Nisar Durrani inquired as to which jail Fawad Chaudhry is in? Chaudhry's lawyer informed that he is imprisoned in Adiala Jail. Member Sindh Nisar Durrani remarked that it would issue an order on this matter.

No one appeared before the ECP on behalf of Asad Umar. ECP's deputy director law Saima Janjua said that Asad Umar's lawyer has requested for an adjournment.

PTI lawyer Shoaib Shaheen told the commission that he was allowed to meet Imran Khan just once in jail. He asked the ECP to issue an appropriate order for a meeting with his client.

Nisar Durrani said that the commission itself could go to the jail for a hearing and that way the lawyer will get all the facilities.

Shoaib Shaheen told the commission that the PTI was not being allowed to hold rallies, and asked for a level-playing field.

The ECP then adjourned the hearing of the case till December 6.
