PM Imran Khan kicks off 'Clean and Green Pakistan' campaign

Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Prime Minister Imran Khan formally launched Clean and Green Pakistan campaign on Saturday.

The prime minister planted a sapling and participated in the cleanliness drive at a girls college in Islamabad.

Addressing a ceremony on this occasion, PM Imran urged the students and youth to lead the campaign as it is connected with the future of the country.

Refereeing to the contributions made by the students in the construction of Shaukat Khanum cancer hospital, Imran Khan said the country requires their services to make Pakistan clean and green.

The PM pointed out that plantation is imperative to protect the environment and check the global warming.

Imran said that Pakistan is the seventh most vulnerable country to the global warming. He mentioned that Lahore is amongst the cities where the pollution level is very high.

“Pakistan ranks seventh among countries affected by global warming, [while] Lahore is among the cities with the highest pollution level,” the PTI chairperson said.

The PM, vowing to plant more trees in the country, said that the PTI government planted one billion trees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the international community recognized this drive. He said that the government has set a target to plant ten billion trees across the country.

“Under the cleanliness drive, sewerage and sanitation system will be improved not only in cities but also the slums and the villages”, the PM asserted.

He said that the dumping sites would be identified from village to Tehsil level for disposal of solid waste.

The PM said Katchi Abadis will be regularised and a housing project will also be started for their dwellers.

Prime Minister Imran Khan vowed to make Pakistan cleaner than Europe in five years.

Meanwhile, President Arif Alvi also participated in Clean and Green Pakistan campaign at a ceremony in Karachi on Saturday.

Addressing the event, the president urged the masses and the relevant institutions to fully participate in the campaign. He said the drive is in line with the teachings of Islam.
