PML-N nominates Shehbaz for PM, Maryam Nawaz for Punjab CM slots

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has nominated party president Shehbaz Sharif for the slot of the prime minister.

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the coveted position of the chief minister of the country’s most populous province, Punjab.

After a meeting of coalition parties in Islamabad, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif announced Maryam's nomination as the candidate for Punjab CM in a joint press conference.

“The decision to nominate Maryam for the position has been made by the party leadership and the Quaid (Nawaz Sharif),” Shehbaz said.

PML-N's Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb in a post on her X (formerly Twitter) handle.

She said that Maryam Nawaz has been nominated for the seat of Punjab's chief Minister also confirmed the nominations of Shehbaz and Maryam.

Aurangzeb said that the PML-N supremo has thanked the people of Pakistan as well as all the political parties and their leaders who provided political support.

She said Nawaz Sharif has expressed his firm belief that as a result of these decisions, Pakistan will come out of economic crisis and inflation.

Earlier, the leadership of the former allies announced to form a coalition government in the Centre.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad flanked by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and MQM Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui in Islamabad, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif termed deteriorating economic conditions as the biggest challenge for the upcoming government and called for joint efforts to steer the country out of this crisis.

He emphasized the need to formulate a mechanism for reducing the burden of foreign debt and curbing the unbridled inflation in the country.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to the coalition parties to support PML-N in the formation of government.
