COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,980 new cases, 24 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 978,847 on Wednesday after 1,980 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 349,586 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 348,725 in Punjab, 139,710 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 28,434 in Balochistan, 83,956 in Islamabad, 7,044 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 21,392 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 47,472 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 4.17%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 22,642 with 24 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 915,343 after another 738 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, The Sindh government has decided to suspend physical classes besides banning other activities from Friday as the Covid-19 positivity ratio has been increasing in the province during last week.

A high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah decided about the closure of schools; however, exams will continue as per schedule.

It was also decided to close indoor dining from tomorrow night while recreational and water parks, Seaview and Keenjhar Lake will be closed from Friday. Cinemas, indoor gyms and sports will also be banned.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 188.654 million and death toll tops 4,066,859.
