Islamabad (Web Desk): At least 12 people were killed and five others injured when the wall of an under-construction bridge collapsed near Golra Mor, Peshawar Road in Islamabad after heavy rainfall on Wednesday lashed the twin cities, inundating several localities and submerging main thoroughfares.
According to police, the wall was 100-foot wide and 11-foot high, under which the labourers had set up a tent to live at the construction site.
Rescue 1122 officials said that they reached the site of the incident as soon as they received the report of the incident.
As per the police, the rescue workers pulled bodies out from the wall's debris with the help of machines. Search for more people likely to be stuck under the rubble is underway, with four being rescued alive so far.
All the deceased were labourers who belonged to different areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Punjab.
They were identified as Muhammad Shoaib, Zahid, Karim, Noor Muhammad, Kaleemullah, Jalal Deen, Akbarzada, Israfel, Nauman, Muhammad Khalid, Yasin, Farooq, Muhammad Shakeel, Inayat, Rehman and Mualim Khan.
An Islamabad police station has registered the incident report and started an investigation.
Separately, 11 people were “slightly injured” when a vehicle crashed into three buses that had already collided on the M-1 (Islamabad-Peshawar) motorway near the Burhan Interchange, Saqib Waheed, spokesperson for the motorway police said.
He clarified that there was no loss of life in the incident and that no one was “seriously injured”.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad Police in a tweet, alerted citizens that “traffic congestion may be observed” at several locations due to heavy rain and waterlogging.

The locations specified were the Main Bharakahu Road, Tramri Chowk, Captain Kernal Shair Khan Avenue, the Faizabad area and the PWD stop on the Islamabad Expressway.
The police added that its officers were present at the above locations to ease the congestion.
