COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,772 new cases, 48 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 524,783 on Wednesday after 1,772 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 237,308 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 150,889 in Punjab, 64,078 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,640 in Balochistan, 40,304 in Islamabad, 4,892 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 8,672 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 11,103 with 48 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 478,517 after another 2,046 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said it has provided technical and operational support to Pakistan to contain the spread of Covid-19, in compliance with the international health regulations.

According to WHO, the assistance includes strengthening capacities for screening for early detection, active case finding of COVID-19 cases and personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 94.1 million and death toll tops 2.034,000 million.
