Islamabad (Staff Report): Former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday came hard on his own government for failing to condemn the recent US drone strike in Pakistan’s territory.
While addressing the National Assembly session, Ch Nisar said that he wanted to take up the issue with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi but he is not present in the house due to his visit to New York to attend the UN General Assembly Session.
“It is surprising for me that Prime Minister did not give a formal statement for condemnation even though he held a meeting with the US ambassador on the day when the strike occurred,” he said.
He termed drone attacks a challenge to the sovereignty of Pakistan and its national integrity, adding, “I am telling the international community to respect Pakistan”.
Talking about miseries of Rohingya Muslims, Nisar said that over 400,000 Muslims have been forced to leave Myanmar where people are subjected to ethnic cleansing.
He said that Pakistan should call a special meeting regarding the issue in the OIC, besides urging the government to establish a fund for the deprived and persecuted people of Myanmar.
On September 15, three people died and two injured after a suspected drone strike by the US in Kurram Agency, part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
