AT UNSC, Pakistan demands probe into banned TTP acquiring advanced weapons

United Nations (Web Desk): Pakistan has demanded a probe to determine how the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) acquired advanced weapons used in recent cross-border terrorist attacks against Pakistan.

The demand was placed by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram to the UN Security Council during a debate on the situation in Afghanistan.

He said TTP and its affiliates have carried out a series of organized cross-border terrorist attacks on Pakistan’s soil.

Ambassador Akram further said that the terrorist group has access to weapons originating in the stock left behind by foreign forces.

“Islamabad has clear evidence that the TTP receives support from our main adversary,” Ambassador Munir Akam said, in an obvious reference to India

In this regard, the Pakistani envoy demanded that the UN, whether UNAMA or another agency, conduct a thorough investigation to elicit how these weapons got into the hands of the TTP and to identify ways of retrieving them.
